Treatment for Non-Healing Wounds

A wound that does not heal as expected may be a sign of an underlying problem that requires specialized care. Non-healing wounds can develop from diabetes, poor circulation, infection, pressure, injury, surgery, or other medical conditions that interfere with the body's natural healing process.

If a wound continues to remain open, becomes larger, drains, or shows little improvement over time, it is important to have it evaluated by a wound care specialist. Early treatment can help prevent complications and support the healing process.

Chronic wounds can be painful, limit your mobility, and even threaten your independence. But there's hope. At San Gorgonio Wound Care Center, we offer advanced treatments and compassionate care to help you heal faster and reclaim your life.

Treatments for Non-Healing Wounds

Effective treatment for a non-healing wound begins with understanding why the wound is not healing. Our medical team evaluates the wound and surrounding tissue while considering factors such as circulation, infection, pressure, diabetes, nutrition, and other underlying conditions.

We carefully evaluate the size, depth, location, tissue condition, drainage, and overall appearance of the wound. Identifying the factors affecting healing allows us to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Depending on the type and severity of the wound, treatment may include:

Professional Wound Debridement

Dead, damaged, or infected tissue can interfere with healing. When appropriate, professional debridement may be used to remove unhealthy tissue and help create a healthier environment for wound healing.

Infection Management

Infection can prevent a wound from healing and may cause the condition to worsen. We monitor wounds for signs of infection and coordinate appropriate treatment when infection is suspected or identified.

Pressure Relief and Offloading

Repeated pressure on a wound can prevent healing and cause additional tissue damage. For wounds involving the feet, heels, or other pressure points, specialized footwear, braces, boots, or other offloading methods may be recommended.

Advanced Wound Dressings

The appropriate dressing can help protect the wound, manage drainage, maintain an optimal healing environment, and prevent additional injury. Dressing selection is based on the individual characteristics of the wound.

Management of Underlying Conditions

Conditions such as diabetes, poor circulation, and other medical problems can significantly affect the body's ability to heal. Coordinating care around these factors is an important part of treating chronic wounds.
